The client portal, helping everyone stay organized.
Give clients a firm-branded portal where they see the plan, advice, accounts, and documents you choose to share, and send you files without a single email attachment. Behind it sits secure document storage for every household, and secure links that expire on your schedule.
Nothing reaches a client until you share or publish it.

From you
Every household's documents, organized and shareable
Each household gets its own secure document library. Share any file into the client's portal with a click, and files the client uploads land right back in the same library.
For your team
Organized by household
Nested folders for tax returns, statements, estate documents, or any structure that fits your workflow.
Find files fast
Search by name and switch between grid and list views.
The files you actually use
PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, images, and text files, up to 50 MB each.
Documents that do work
Uploaded statements and returns feed Sterling's fact extraction, so household data stays current.
Redaction labels
Flag files that contain sensitive information, with a record of who marked them and when.
For your clients
Share file by file
Choose exactly which documents a client sees. Folders are never shared, so a file added later can never slip through.
Client uploads, sorted for you
Files a client uploads through the portal land in a “From client” folder, and your team gets a notification.
Redacted files stay private
A file marked as redacted cannot be shared, and marking a shared file redacted withdraws it from the portal.
A record of every access
Every share, view, download, and client upload is written to the audit log.
Links that do one job, then expire
No more chasing documents over email or attaching tax returns to messages. Every link Sterling creates is scoped to a single purpose and stops working on its own.
Secure upload links
Need documents from a client who isn't on the portal yet? Generate a link, choose how long it stays active, and send it. They upload straight into the household's folder without creating an account.
Single-use portal invites
Clients join the portal through an emailed link that works once and expires after seven days. They set their own password, and the link can never be reused.
Short-lived download links
Documents are never served directly from storage. Each download opens through a short-lived signed link scoped to that one file and to a client who has already signed in.
All traffic is encrypted in transit, and documents are encrypted at rest. See the Trust Center for details.
More than a file drop
The portal draws on the same household data you work from in Sterling, so clients see their full financial picture and the plan you built for them. You decide which sections each household gets.

Facts
Their details, with optional change requests
Plans are a snapshot you publish, so the client's numbers never shift while you're still working. Republish when you're ready.
You stay in control
Off until you turn it on
The portal is off for every household until you enable it, and switching it off takes effect on the client's next click.
Settings at every level
Set what clients can see and do for the whole firm, for each advisor's households, or for a single household.
Revoke access instantly
Remove a client's login and it stops working immediately, without waiting for a session to expire.
Two-step verification
Clients can turn on two-step verification from their account menu, and idle sessions sign out automatically.
Changes go through you
If you allow clients to suggest updates to their details, nothing changes until an advisor approves it.
Your brand, not ours
Your firm's logo, name, and colors lead the portal and the invitation email.
How it works
Invite the household
Turn the portal on for a household and invite each client. They get a branded email to set their password
Share and publish
Share documents and tasks, and publish the plan when it's ready for the client to see
Clients sign in
Clients review their plan, download what you shared, and upload what you need
Give every client a portal worth logging into
The client portal and document storage are part of the free Sterling platform. See it with a real household in a demo, or start free today.
