Choose Redtail if…

  • You want a dedicated advisor CRM with a long track record, compliant texting (Speak), and document storage (Imaging) in one subscription
  • Your firm depends on specific integrations from its network of more than 100 tools, or you already run on Orion for planning, trading, or reporting
  • You want low, published per-user pricing starting at $39 per user per month

Choose RK Sterling if…

  • You want the CRM plus planning, tax analysis, documents with fact extraction, meeting AI, email, and research in one platform
  • You prefer a free platform with unlimited team members over per-user tiers
  • You want AI throughout the practice, with household-level control over AI access and audit logs designed for SEC examinations

What is Redtail?

Redtail Technology, founded in 2003 and acquired by Orion in 2022, makes a web-based CRM for financial advisors. The CRM covers contact and account management, segmentation, reporting, bulk email, and a mobile app on every plan. The Growth plan adds process workflows, automation triggers, viewing permissions, Redtail Imaging (document storage with 200 GB included), and Redtail Speak (compliant text messaging, subject to broker-dealer approval, with an AI assistant).

Redtail publishes two self-serve plans. Launch is $39 per user per month billed annually ($45 billed monthly) and is capped at five users. Growth is $59 per user per month billed annually ($65 billed monthly) with unlimited users. Enterprise plans are customizable with a minimum license commitment. New users can trial the full Growth plan. Redtail reports more than 100 integrations across planning tools, custodians, portfolio platforms, and scheduling and meeting tools.

By scope, Redtail is a CRM with texting and document storage attached. Financial planning, tax analysis, and portfolio reporting come from integrations or from sibling Orion products rather than from Redtail itself. AI features are arriving mostly through partners: Jump's meeting notes, prep, and follow-up are embedded in the CRM, and other vendors offer meeting-note and email-drafting integrations. Redtail's own AI assistant lives in Speak on the Growth plan.

What is RK Sterling?

RK Sterling includes a CRM with households, workflows, workspaces, and tasks, but the CRM is the starting point rather than the product. The same platform carries planning, tax analysis, document storage with fact extraction, an AI notetaker, AI email, research, and an advice engine, so client data entered once powers everything.

RK Sterling is an integrated AI platform for financial advisors, founded in 2025 and based in Denver, Colorado. Rather than assembling a stack of separate tools for planning, CRM, meeting notes, email, and documents, Sterling combines them in a single platform where every feature works from the same household data.

The platform includes an Advice Engine that surfaces client-specific opportunities, advice management, financial planning with One-Click Plans (AI drafts the complete plan with goals, toggles, and scenarios for advisor review), tax analysis, AI-powered research with full household context, a CRM with workflows, workspaces, and tasks, document storage, a firm-branded client portal where clients see the plans, documents, and tasks their advisor shares with them, fact extraction from documents, an AI notetaker, AI email, an MCP connector that lets Claude build PowerPoint, Word, and Excel files from household data, and integrations with Schwab, Fidelity, and Microsoft Outlook and Teams.

The Sterling platform is free for every firm, with no platform fee, no seat fees, and no household tiers. AI features are usage-based, so firms pay only for the AI work they use. Client data is never used to train AI models, AI access is controlled per household, and audit logs are designed for SEC examinations.
