AdviceAdvice Sessions

Advice Sessions

What is an Advice Session?

An Advice Session is how Sterling organizes recommendations for your clients. Each session represents a planning period, typically a calendar or tax year. For example, you might create a session called "2026 Opportunities" to capture all recommendations for that year.

Sessions keep your advice organized and make it easy to revisit past recommendations. You can create multiple sessions per household and switch between them at any time.

Creating a New Session

Before Sterling can generate advice for a household, you need to create an Advice Session. Here's how:

  1. Open the household you want to work with
  2. Navigate to the Advice section
  3. Click the New Session button
  4. Enter a name for your session (e.g., "2026 Opportunities")
  5. Select the tax year from the dropdown. This also sets the relevant tax laws for that year.
  6. Click Create to save

Your new session is now active and ready for advice generation.

Session Naming Tips

Use descriptive names that include the year and purpose. Examples: "2026 Tax Planning", "2025 Year-End Review", or "Q1 2026 Opportunities". This makes it easy to find sessions later.

Managing Multiple Sessions

Each household can have multiple sessions. To switch between sessions, click on any session card in the session list. You can also archive old sessions to keep your workspace organized without losing historical data.
