Household Permissions

Household Permissions control which clients each user can access and how Sterling's AI features interact with their data. Firm Admins configure these settings for each team member.

Accessing Household Permissions

  1. Navigate to Settings from the profile menu
  2. Find the user in the Manage Users table
  3. Click Household Permissions in the Actions column

This opens a page showing all households in your firm with permission settings for the selected user.

Advisor Access Levels

Each household can grant one of two access levels to a user:

Access LevelWhat It Means
Full AccessCan view and edit all household data, documents, and advice
No AccessCannot see the household anywhere in Sterling

Firm Admins automatically have Full Access to all households. This setting only affects Standard Users.

AI Usage Policies

Each household has an AI usage policy that determines how Sterling's AI features process client data. This is a household-level setting that applies to everyone who accesses that client.

PolicyDescription
Secure - Full AI UsageAI processes all household data including personal details
Anonymized - PII ProtectedAI processes data with names and identifying details masked

New households default to Secure. Change this setting if a client has requested enhanced privacy protections or has opted out of AI features.

Saving Changes

After adjusting permissions or AI policies, click Save to apply your changes. Use the search bar at the top of the page to quickly find specific households in large firms.
